Recommendation from: Himynameiscade

Sunny Day Real Estate- “Diary”

This is debut studio album made by the Seattle band and was released in 1994 and reissued in 2009. Apparently, this is the first “Emo” music album and is often called the missing link between post-hardcore and emo. If this is the case, I don’t see where the hell “Emo” bands went wrong because although I wasn’t crazy about it, this is a decent album and most “Emo” rock is just horrible. I can definitely hear the influence that has given many bands still unfortunately making music the sound they have, but this is more Seattle influenced than anything. It is rather depressing at times and difficult to get through. I’m not so sure if I’d listen to it again a whole lot, but you’d have to hear it to form an opinion. Cade said its an acquired taste so maybe after another listen or two I’ll change my mind, but these are just my first opinions. I’m rather biased on the genre they influenced. “Shadows” is a terrific track and was probably my favorite. I’d also recommend “48”. This is overall a great drummer’s album. As far as effect the effect this band has had in music, I’d say out of respect, this deserves a listen if you’re a fan of bands in the genre they influenced. Also, if you like the Seattle sound music, you may want to listen too for a bit of a different perspective.

I also want to note that the album art is pretty fucking cool. I dig how they are making the toy people look complete oblivious to the fire that is going on from toaster. I wonder if they are trying to make a political statement with the art. If so, message received.
